Sound testing is required by Building Regulations Approved Document E (ADE), if you have created a new dwelling, house, flat or room for residential purposes, or if you have altered and created a material change of use of a building into any of the aforementioned, then you should have a percentage of dividing party walls and floors tested for compliance by way of a "sound test" or as often requested by Building Control Officer's as, "Pre Completion Sound Testing".
In order to carry out a sound test of the required party wall or floor, a pair of rooms must be near completion on either side. Electricity should be available in all rooms under test and for both safety and accurate results, only our own personnel should be in or near rooms under test. A single wall should take 1 hour to 1.5 hours, a floor requiring airborne and impact testing should take 2 hours during which quiet is required.

We would advise that you request a sound test before painting but after the main dividing element (wall / floor) has been constructed. Ideally electrical and plumbing services will be installed with doors and windows fitted.
